CLARA B. HARRELL
March 30, 1930-Aug. 29, 2017
Early Tuesday morning, Aug. 29, 2017, Clara Broglin Harrell, 87, Goldsboro, moved to her heavenly home.
Clara was a godly woman, who loved the Lord and her family, and set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.
Clara was born in Bertie County March 30, 1930, to the late Claude Broglin Sr. and Nettie White Cooke.
She was married to the late Rupert H. Harrell Sr., who preceded her in death Aug. 9, 1999.
Clara will be sorely missed here on earth, but we take solace in the fact that she has now rejoined the love of her life, her Rupert.
Clara worked as cafeteria manager in both Rocky Mount and Goldsboro public school systems. She was a dedicated employee, and she loved and cared deeply for the students.
Clara had a sparkle in her eye and a heartwarming, generous spirit, always making everyone feel at home.
After her retirement, Clara volunteered at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
She had been a longtime member of Patetown Church of God. Her daily devotional readings were a regular part of her spiritual practice. From them, she drew strength and courage.
She passed her love of life and positive outlook to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service celebrating Clara's life at 11 a.m. in the chapel, with her son, the Rev. Rupert H. Harrell Jr., and her pastor, the Rev. Marvin Wiggins, officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Clara is survived by her daughters, Lynn Cantrell and husband, Steve, of Tennessee and Cindy Konig and husband, Kevin, of Goldsboro; son, Rupert H. Harrell Jr. and wife, Myra, of Texas; grandchildren, Martie Harrell, Rebecca Holmes, T.J. Harrell, Tabitha Riggs and Candace Cantrell Gearheart; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Ann Owens; sister-in-law, Diane Cooke; and several nieces and nephews she loved very much.
In addition to her husband and parents, Clara was preceded in death by her daughter, Claudia J. Williams; son-in-law, Howard Williams; stepfather, Lonnie B. Cooke; granddaughter, Caycee Whaley-Smith; and brothers, Bobby Gene Cooke and Beecher Cooke.
We who had the privilege of loving Clara rejoice in knowing that even now she is hearing the commendation of her Lord and Savior telling her, "Well done, my good and faithful daughter, Clara. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your Master." (Matthew 25:21).
