GEORGE W. HOLLAND

Aug. 17, 1930-Aug. 16, 2017

George W. Holland, 86, Pikeville, went to be with his Lord Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at Wayne Memorial Hospital with his daughter by his side.

George was born in Wayne County Aug. 17, 1930, to the late Henry and Verdie Hollomon Holland. He was married to the late Evelyn Boyette Holland.

George proudly served his country in the United States Army.

He was a valued employee of Textilease Corp. for more than 37 years, where he served as a professional salesman.

In recent years, George provided transportation for clients of Waynesboro Family Clinic.

George faithfully attended Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church in Goldsboro, and in the early 1950s, served as a Sunday school teacher with the Salvation Army church.

His most significant role in life, and what he did best, was being a loving father and friend to his daughter, Kathy, who lived with him.

George had a wonderful sense of humor, and never took himself too seriously. He always enjoyed listening to good old gospel music, and will be remembered for his ability to build almost anything as he was known as an excellent carpenter.

George was a good friend and a great father, and had a generous heart. He provided a wonderful home for his family, and gave all he could to his family and strangers alike.

A service to remember George will be held Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at 7 p.m. in Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Heath officiating.

The family will greet friends Friday following the service at the church.

Interment will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

George is survived by his daughter, Kathy Fay Holland of the home, and several nieces and nephews he loved very much.

He is also survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray and Doris Boyette, Jack and Dorothy Boyette, Haywood and Kathy Boyette, Bootsie Smith and Vennie Lee Moore.

In addition to his wife and parents, George was preceded in death by an infant daughter; sisters, Hazel Holland Hatch, Esther Holland Kearney and Virginia Ann Holland Hamilton; and brother, Herman Holland.
