ANN H. WRIGHT
May 2, 1943-July 15, 2017
Ann Howard "Monk" Wright, 74, of LaGrange, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017, while surrounded by her family. Ann was born in Lenoir County to the late Kirby Howard and Kathleen Barwick Howard. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy Lee Carter and Cleve Wright.
Ann took great pride in caring for her family. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and performing special solos, such as her favorite, "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem." Together, Cleve and Ann shared a passion for bluegrass music, often singing along to the accompaniment of Cleve's guitar.
Ann was a long-standing and faithful member of LaGrange Church of God. Over the years she has served her Lord and her church as a representative of the Christian Education Board, a Sunday school teacher, Vice President of Women's Ministries, and a choir member. Always one to care for others, Ann began her working career at Howell's Childcare and later retired from Caswell Center, where she worked as a CNA. Her love for children was evident in the relationships she built with the many preschool students she taught in Sunday school.
She took pleasure in tending to the flowers in her yard and using her creativity in working with arts and crafts. Her talents could be seen in the beautiful arrangements and crafts she created for the decoration of her home and church. Ann enjoyed word searches while watching her favorite shows, "Wheel of Fortune," "Family Feud" and HGTV.
A service to celebrate Ann's life will be held Wednesday, July 19, at 10 a.m. from LaGrange Church of God with Pastor Arnold Ball officiating. A graveside committal service will follow at Pinelawn Cemetery.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Wanda Sue Carter Smith and husband, Steve; grandson, Stephen Blackburn and his fiancée, Charlie Taylor; her beloved grand-dog, Lady; siblings, Edna Pearl Hinson, Gail Godwin, William Earl "Bib" Howard and wife, Peggy, Cecil Ray Howard and wife, Pam, Dennis Howard and wife, Gail, and Donald "Buzzy" Lutter; sister-in-law, Alberta Howard; brother-in-law, Nelson Smith; two special family friends who Ann thought of as daughters, Michelle Pelletier and husband, Jeff, and Pam "Skeeter" Drisko; and a special granddaughter, Skylar Drisko.
