HILDEGARD W. CLARK

Aug. 7, 1930-May 19, 2017

Her Journey Through Life

Hildegard Wilhelmine Morick Clark, Goldsboro, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center after a lengthy illness.

Hildegard was born Aug. 7, 1930, to Anna Johanna Wiechers and father, Wilhelm Viktor Morick, machinist with the mining and steel industry in the city of Gelsenkirchen Schalke, a suburb of Essen, Germany.

She completed her primary schooling, and remained at this location until 1940, at which time her family (mother, father, brother, Herbert and Hildegard) immigrated to Hoaensalza (Inobrwraslov), Poland, where her family was engaged in the transportation business (carts, wagons, horses, etc.), and where Hildegard and family remained at this location until approximately 1945, when World War II was coming to an end.

Her father, Wilhelm, became separated from the family around 1945, in Crossen, Germany, when the Russians invaded Poland. As a result of the occupation, the family lost contact with their father, and since no prisoners were taken, her father was considered to be missing in action or killed in action.

In early spring, 1945, Hildegard, her brother, Herbert, and her mother Anna, began their trek west, traveling to her mother's hometown in Western Germany. They rested in Berlin for approximately a month due to the bombing of the city, and arrived in Heiden in the middle of June. Hildegard continued to live in Heiden until she was 19 years of age.

In 1950, she immigrated to Papworth Everard, Cambridge, England, where she attended the Queens Hospital Nursing School.

Upon completing her education, she worked as a surgical nurse in Papworth Cardiothoracic Hospital, Cambridge, England, where she was employed for 19 years.

In 1969, Hildegard and her two daughters, Diana and Rebecca, immigrated to Goldsboro, N.C., USA, at which time Hildegard married Otha Adolph Clark.

She was a devoted mother to her family and lived at her current address (203 Oak Circle Drive, Goldsboro, N.C.) until her demise.

Hildegard is survived by her husband of 48 years, Otha Adolph Clark; two daughters, Rebecca Ann Moore and husband, Russell Max Moore, of Upland, Calif., and Diana Maria Simmons and husband, Gary Wayne Simmons, of Goose Creek, S.C.; five grandchildren, Travis Moore and wife, Regina, and Rachel Smiderle and husband, Richard, all of Upland, Calif., Samantha Amthor and husband, Jeremy, of Seattle, Wash., Kendahl Weaver and husband, David, of Upland, Calif., and Nicole Hubler and husband, Andy, of Hanahan, S.C.; and nine great-grandchildren.

And a very dear friend, Jessie Whitaker, of the WAGES Companionship Program, of Goldsboro, N.C.

Hildegard was predeceased by her mother, Anna Johanna, who died in 1978, and her brother, Herbert, who died in 2014, both of natural causes.

Hildegard worked as a dental assistant for a private dentist in Goldsboro for approximately five years after her arrival in the states.

She also participated in religious services held at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base chapel for a number of years.

You are invited to visit with Hildegard's family Saturday, June 3, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, with a brief memorial service to follow in the chapel, with interment immediately following at Wayne Memorial Park located on U.S. 117 South, Goldsboro, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wayne Action Group for Economic Solvency Inc. (WAGES), 601 E. Royall Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
