JAMES E. SUMMERLIN
April 12, 1942-May 29, 2017
James Edward Summerlin, 75, passed away Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
James was born in Wayne County to the late William Lester and Pearle Johnson Summerlin, and was the husband of Nancy Summerlin.
He was retired from probation and parole with the state of North Carolina, and was a past employee of Cherry Hospital.
James was a veteran of the North Carolina Army National Guard. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Funeral services will be held Thursday from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral home at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Jackson and the Rev. Jonathan Smith officiating. Committal services will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by his sons, James Keith "Jamie" Summerlin and wife, Meghan, of Mount Olive and Jonathan Eric Summerlin and wife, Kimberly, of Goldsboro; daughters, Elizabeth Niccolai and husband, Dino, of Charlotte and Martha Summerlin of Raleigh; a sister, Barbara Dills and husband, James, of Dudley; a sister-in-law, Dawn of Pikeville; and grandchildren, Skyler Summerlin, Jacob Summerlin, Alexis Davis, Brooke Summerlin, Kaylin Summerlin and Hunter Summerlin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Carolina National Guard Education Association, 7410 Chapel Hill Road, Raleigh, N.C., 27607.
