Robert Louis Rose, 81, Pikeville, passed away peacefully in his home April 11, 201, surrounded by his family.
A native of Wayne County, Robert was born to Hubert R. Rose Sr. and Martha Alice Catledge Rose.
He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960.
Upon his return to Goldsboro, he began growing his family, and with the guidance of his father and brothers, he began his lifetime career.
Mr. Rose was a veteran merchant of the retail furniture industry in Eastern North Carolina for more than 60 years. He held ownership positions in companies that included Rose Brothers Furniture of Havelock, Furniture Liquidators, Mills and Thomas Furniture and Red Shed Furniture.
Mr. Rose was a member of the original Rotary Club of Havelock, N.C., and served on the Havelock Advisory Board for Branch Banking and Trust.
Mr. Rose will always be remembered for the generosity he extended over the course of his life to family, friends and strangers alike. He had a sincere desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by his time, talent and treasure. Even in his final days, he reminded his family of the importance of sharing these God-given gifts.
A service to celebrate Robert's life will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brian Huffman officiating. Entombment will follow the service in Willow Dale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017, at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times, friends will be received at his home.
More than anything else, Robert has been devoted to his wife, Joan Barrow Rose.
He will be lovingly remembered as a good father by his children, Robert Louis "Bert" Rose II (Ramona), Martha Elizabeth Rose, Amy Rose Cecil (Curtis) and Mary Margaret Rose Radford (Daryl).
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mary Glenn Rose Dinger (Brandon), Martha Alice Pearson, Caroline Rose Brody (Adam), Robert Vance Morris and Thomas and Joseph Radford; great-grandchildren, Cannon, Grayson and Raleigh Dinger and Conley Brody; son-in-law, Steve Pearson; sister, Martha Rose Watson; brothers, Travis Rose, Nick Rose and Tom Rose; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert will also be remembered by Joan's parents, Ray and Edna Barrow; sisters-in-law, Edna Barrow Hoogewind and Audrey Barrow Walker; and a very special nephew, John David Walker.
He also leaves behind his devoted dog, "Baby Girl" Snuggle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Hubert Rose Jr. and Jack C. Rose.
The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care of Dr. Robert B. Dunmire, M.D., as well as the nurses and staff of DaVita Goldsboro North, who provided care for Robert over the years.
Mr. Rose's family would also like to extend special gratitude to Community Home Care and Hospice, especially his nurses, Jessica and Carol, and his special aid, Tracie, who had a profound impact on the quality of Robert's life in his final days.
