VIOLET ROSE THORNTON
Violet Rose Thornton, 72, Grantham community, passed away at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.
She was the daughter of the late Harvey Preston and Bessie Thornton.
Ms. Thornton was a retired school teacher for Wayne County Schools.
A funeral service will be held at Eureka Christian Church Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Frank Purvis officiating. Committal services will follow in Grady Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Violet is survived by her brothers, Shelton Thornton and wife, Irene, of Grantham, Preston Thornton Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of Grantham, Harold Thornton and wife, Kathy, of Grantham, Rayvon Thornton and wife, Rita, of Clayton, and Gordon Thornton and wife, Jenny, of Seven Springs; a sister, Frances Capps and husband, James, of Grantham; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Coker of Grantham
A brother, Gary Thornton, and a sister, Judy Coker, preceded her in death.
