CLAUDE L. WHITFIELD

Claude Linwood Whitfield, 83, died Tuesday night at his residence.
Born in Greene County, he was the son of the late Claudious Leroy Whitfield and Bessie Beaman Whitfield, brother of the late John I. Whitfield and stepfather of the late Judy Cartrette Wagner and Stephen Emery Cartrette.
Claude was a member of the New Hope Church of God, and a local engineer and land surveyor.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hookerton United Methodist Church, with pastor Charlie Asby officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will visit with friends Friday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times, will be at the home, 200 Walnut Creek Drive, Goldsboro, N.C.
Claude is survived by his wife, Frances Smith Whitfield; his children, Lou Ann Whitfield Sutton and husband, Ricky, Cynthia Marie Whitfield Walston and husband, David, and Curtis Linwood Whitfield and wife, Amy; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Cartrette; nine grandchildren, Jonathan Walston, Amber Walston, Cory Whitfield, Casey Whitfield, Emmalee Jones, Jordan Cartrette, Christopher Cartrette, Ryan Cartrette and Tucker Whitfield; six great-grandchildren; brother, Leroy B. Whitfield and wife, Ida; sister, Edna Whitfield Bright and husband, Claud; and a sister-in-law, Peggy B. Whitfield.
