GERALD TAYLOR

Gerald Taylor, 86, Goldsboro, retired from his last earthly job Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, to be with his heavenly Father.
Gerald was born in Johnston County, N.C., May 12, 1930, to the late Roscoe Taylor and Mallie Hayes Taylor.
He entered the United States Army when he was 18, retiring after 21 years.
Gerald was a man who loved to work.
After his retirement from the Army, he worked for 10 years with Strickland Insurance and Realty.
After that, Gerald worked for 10 more years with the Tobacco Board of Trade, and then 10 more years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an independent crop inspector. He retired from that job only two years ago in 2014.
In his spare time, which was little, Gerald enjoyed fishing.
In 1985, he was master of Wayne Masonic Lodge No. 112 AF and AM, and received his 50-year membership award in 2015.
Gerald was a member of Saulston United Methodist Church.
A service to celebrate Gerald's life will be Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Saulston United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Brian Huffman officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service.
Interment will be at 2 p.m. in Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Gerald is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Jo" Taylor; son, Gary Taylor and wife, Amy, of Clayton; granddaughter, Kristin Sagar and husband, Blake, of Greensboro; great-grandchildren, Forest Sagar and Willow Sagar; and his sister, Darlene Sprayberry of Atlanta, Ga.
