WARREN T. ROOK

Warren Tommy Rook, 81, of Fremont, N.C. died Tuesday, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Mr. Rook was born in Emporia, Virginia, on March 6, 1935. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Claudette (Branch) Rook; his son and his wife, Kevin and Dee Rook; his grandchildren, Kevin Dale Rook, Nikki Brady, Myra Gerrell and great-grandchild, Josie Brady. Mr. Rook has one living brother, Roger Daniel Rook of Gaston, N.C. and one sister, Judy Manning of Gaston, N.C.
Mr. Rook is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army, where he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1975.
After retiring from the Army, Mr. Rook worked at N.C. ABC store for 15 years, a mail route in Greenville, N.C. for five years and Kerr Glass in Wilson for five years.
Mr. Rook met his wife, Claudette Branch, at Gaston, N.C. and they were married in 1957. He joined the Army in 1955 and was stationed all over the USA as well as overseas. He took great pride in serving his country and continued to support the veterans in his spare time by driving the DAV van and getting veterans to their doctor's appointments all over N.C. He also worked the local fair ever year in the VA peanut booth. He also sold poppies for the veterans at the U.S. air base when he had spare time.
Visitation will be held at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro, on Friday, Sept. 23, from 9 until 9:30 a.m. followed by the graveside service at 10 a.m. at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
The family requests that no flowers be sent, but donations can be made towards the Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes and cancer foundations. The family also requests that any food be given to the needy in the community.
The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
