RUTH SASSER DAVIS
March 30, 1932-Sept. 16, 2016
Her work is finished and today, Sept. 16, 2016, she entered the portals of glory to be with her Savior, who gave her life and sustained her for 84 years, and went away to prepare a place for her. She not only rejoices with her Savior, but with Pat Davis, the love of her life.
Ruth Sasser Davis was born March 30, 1932, in Grantham Township of Wayne County. She was the daughter of Jesse Clarence and Lillian Wadsworth Sasser.
Ruth graduated from Rosewood High School in 1950, was employed by Bell South for 34 years as the business office assistant manager and retired in 1983.
She was also the operations manager for J&B Enterprises, taught at Johnston Community College, was a private sitter and was the owner and operator of two family care homes.
April 22, 1977, Ruth married the love of her life, Pat Davis, and they were married until his death in 1995.
Ruth was very active in her church, Rosewood First Baptist, where she was a charter member. She served as an assistant Sunday school teacher for the Senior Ladies Class, and was a member of the Commissioned Women.
Community service included memberships in the Pioneers of America, American Business Women's Association (where she was honored as "Woman of the Year") and served as a hospice volunteer. She was also a very committed supporter of Heart and Soul Ministry.
Ruth was a very special part of a loving and supportive family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, L.J. Sasser and wife, Lorraine; brother, Jesse Paul Sasser; sister. Marjorie Forbes and husband, Kit; brother, Eugene Sasser; and sister, Johnnie Bass and husband, Gray.
She was also preceded in death by nephew, Jimmy Allen, and great-nephew, C.J. Campbell.
She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Braswell and brother-in-law, Henry; sisters-in-law, Peggy Sasser and Rudine Aycock; 15 nieces and nephews; 28 great-nieces and nephews; and 21 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Ruth had many friends through the years, most recently a special friend, Orrell Holland, whom she cared for throughout his illness and death.
She had many other special friends, including her church family, nieces and nephews of Pat Davis and many others.
She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family and visiting shut-ins. She read her Bible daily, and completed reading it all the way through each year. Her favorite scriptures were "Be still and know that I am God" Psalms 46:10, and Matthew 21:20 "For whatsoever we ask in faith, believing, we shall receive."
Ruth loved Southern gospel music, and often shared her belief that no one can outgive God. She never met a stranger, and will be missed by many.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, at 3 p.m. in Rosewood First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be at Braswell Hall at the church from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Friends and family may also be greeted at her home at 655 N.C. 581 South, Goldsboro.
Burial will be at Pine Forest Methodist Church at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Rosewood First Baptist Church Building Fund.
