BARBARA A. SHELDON
Feb. 26, 1956-Sept. 6, 2016
Barbara Armstrong Sheldon, 60, Goldsboro, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, surrounded by her family at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The life she lived, one of Christian love and dedication, could not be diminished by the short illness that she endured.
Barbara was born at Fort Benning, Ga., Feb. 26, 1956, to the late Don and Frances Armstrong.
Barbara was a very strong believer in Jesus Christ, and felt that nothing is impossible when you place your trust in God.
She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, where she was actively involved in children's ministries. Her faith gave her the courage to face anything in life.
After receiving her degree in education from Liberty Baptist College, Barbara began a career in Christian education that lasted 38 years. Most of those years were spent at Wayne Christian School, where she served as an English teacher and dean of academics.
Her students were blessed by the love of a truly honorable and compassionate teacher, and were encouraged to pursue excellence in all endeavors. She touched the lives of students, teachers and families throughout Wayne County.
No lives were more impacted by Barbara's life than those of her family.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jonathan Sheldon; children, Rebecca Sheldon, Melissa Stephens and husband, Mark, and David Sheldon and wife, Tanya; and her grandchildren, Elliot David Sheldon and Zoe Noelle Stephens.
She is also survived by her sisters, Donna Henderson and husband, J.D., and Kathy Belardo and husband, Nick, and brother, Bill Armstrong and wife, Cindy.
A service celebrating Barbara's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, in the Clifford Gymnasium at Wayne Christian School, with the Rev. Jonathan Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in memory of Barbara to Wayne Christian School, 1201 Patetown Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Child Evangelism Fellowship, P.O. Box 848, Garner, N.C., 27529.
