JAMES WILLIAM THORNTON

James William Thornton, 81, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. He was the son of the late James and Ioda Thornton. He was a self-made man and became a master welder, sheet metal worker and pipefitter through the union, working for Goldsboro Tin Shop and Keen Plumbing. Fishing and deer hunting with his buddies was his lifelong passion.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Georgia Benton Thornton, daughters, Gwen (Hughy) Mozingo and Shannon Harpel, granddaughters, Blair Edwards and Shalyn (George) Jones; great-granddaughters, Lillyan and La Vanna Jones, sister, Shirley Powell, brothers, George Thornton and Nelson (Reba) Thornton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wed., June 15, 2016 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 7-9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
