Elsie Yarbrough Wicker, 81, Goldsboro, died Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Funeral will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 3859 U.S. 70 West. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
There will be a time of visiting and sharing with the family in the fellowship hall from 5:30 to 6:45 prior to the service Monday and at other times, at the residence, 2508 Norwood Ave.
She was an active member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church after moving to Goldsboro in 1975.
Mrs. Wicker volunteered her life to caring, loving and entertaining the patients at Britthaven Nursing Home for 22 years. She was recognized as the Most Outstanding Volunteer of the Year numerous times by the Eastern Regional District of Britthaven and also Woodmen of the World.
In 2001, she received the Most Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award from the governor of the state of North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther Calvin Lett Yarbrough and Earlie Lacy Yarbrough; sisters, Marquerite Hargis, Dorothy Ann Stone and Sadie Mae Rawls; brother, Puzie David Yarbrough; and grandson, Jason Wicker.
Survivors include her husband, Tracy W. Wicker; sons, Donald Wayne Wicker (Annette) of Pikeville and the Rev. Gerald "Jerry" Lee Wicker (Petra) of Prince George, Va.; grandchildren, Crystal Gail Wicker, Tammy Wicker Person, Jennifer Wicker, Jessica Wicker and Tracy Lee Wicker; six great-grandchildren; brother, Albert C. Yarborough (Joyce) of Durham; and sisters, Helen Barbara Maddox of Sanford and Lula Belle Jones (Needham) of Theodore, Ala.
