Virginia Hardison Bell, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Virginia was born in Duplin County Oct. 27, 1922, to the late Joseph Elijah Hardison and Jennie Etta Grainger Hardison. She was married to the late Dolphus Abram Bell.

Virginia was a graduate of Warsaw High School and Crumpler's Business School, and attended East Carolina University.

She was active in many cultural and civic organizations.

For many years, Virginia worked as the 3rd Congressional District staff assistant to Congressman David Henderson and Congressman Charlie Whitley.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Goldsboro, where she had served as Sunday school teacher, president of the Christian Women's Fellowship, deacon and elder emeritus.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 9, 2016, from 1 to 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, followed by a service at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Dr. Fred Clarke and the Rev. Dr. Penny Ziemer officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

She is survived by son, Robert A. Bell and wife, Sandra, of Goldsboro; her daughter, Linda Bell Thigpen and husband, George, of Goldsboro; sister, Josephine Beacham of Brandon, Miss.; grandchildren, Emily Bell Gibbons, Jeffrey Bell and wife, Reagan, and Mark A. Thigpen and wife, Christina; and great-grandchildren, Will Gibbons, Finnegan Bell, Teague Bell and Rhodes Thigpen.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister; two brothers; grandson-in-law, William Gibbons; and great-granddaughter, Abbey Gibbons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given in her memory to First Christian Church, 1609 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
