Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking for family and friend gatherings.

It was the simple things around him in life that he never took for granted.
Above all, Roy was devoted to his wife and family. He was a father and grandfather, who always involved himself in every detail of his families’ lives, and supported, respected and loved his wife unconditionally.
Roy was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love and the beauty and peace that would await him after his passing.
A funeral service to celebrate Roy’s life and give witness to his faith in Jesus Christ will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2016, at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Luis Blanco and the Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the narthex of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at his home.
Roy is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kaye Herring Mason; children, Lisa M. Taylor and husband, Kent, Susan M. Kornegay and husband, Glenn, and Lee Mason and wife, Denise; stepchildren, Allen Koch and wife, Annie, Susan Kelly and husband, David, and Kathy Mooring and husband, Jim; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sisters, Geraldine Barfield and Viola Pate, and brother, Paul Ray Mason.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love and care it provided for Roy during his final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.
