ROBERT L. GRANT

Mr. Robert Lee Grant, 83, Snow Hill, died Friday morning, May 6, 2016.
A native of Greene County, he was born May 19, 1932, the son of Walter Grant and Ethel West Grant (Hill).
Robert was a life-long resident of the Shine community of Greene County and was appropriately referred to as its “mayor.”
He had a deep love for the community and his fellow man as exhibited through his devotion to the Shine Fire Department and EMS, where he was a charter member.
Robert was a farmer by profession until his retirement, a loving family man, an individual always ready for a road trip and a member of Free Gospel PFWB Church.
In addition to his parents, Robert was also preceded in death by his step-father, John Hill; and siblings, Hazel Harrison, Agnes Corbitt, Doris Jean Hill and Steve Hill.
His surviving family includes his wife, Carrie Gray Grant; son, Elwood Grant and wife, Beverly, of Goldsboro; sister, Grace Parrott of Kinston; grandchildren, Dustin Grant of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Codee Grant of Charlotte; and a step-grandchild, Stephen Underwood of Goldsboro.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with pastor Danny Hamm officiating and with the Shine FD serving as pallbearers and rendering honors.
The family will receive friends at times other than the service at the home of Robert’s sister-in-law, Anne Gray, 71 Bradford Lane, Snow Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory may be made to the Shine FD, c/o Chief Jeremy Anderson, 1194 Oakdale Road, Snow Hill, N.C., 28580.
