CATHERINE HILL TYNDALL

Nov. 4, 1931-Feb. 19, 2016

Catherine Hill Tyndall died Feb. 19, 2016, at The Oaks at Mayview in Raleigh, N.C.

She was born Nov. 4, 1931, in Deep Run, N.C., to Carrie and William Hill.

A graduate of East Carolina University, Catherine taught school in Edenton, N.C.

She married Durwood Tyndall in 1954, and they lived in Goldsboro with their five children.

She was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church, where she served on the altar guild.

She was active with the North Carolina Medical Auxiliary.

Catherine was an arts and antiques dealer, and owned Merrywood Antiques.

She was devoted to her family and community. She worked to help those less fortunate and was a friend to many.

She is remembered for her sense of humor, energy and business acumen, but, most importantly as a devoted wife and mother.

She is survived by her five children, Hope Hancock (Gerry), Sissy Newell (Howard), Cathy Hollowell (Alan), Prudy Frederick (Ron) and Durk Tyndall (Kristin); grandchildren, Katie Newell Leach (Daniel), Trey Newell (Lara), Hope Newell Cagle (Rob), Mary Catherine Hollowell Bero (Michael), Adron Hollowell, Betsy Frederick Dmochowski (Jake), Emmy Fredrick, Olivia Tyndall and Isabeau Tyndall; and great-grandchildren, Tyndall, Emily and Woods Leach.

She is also survived by her sister, Betsy Hill Owens and her husband, Jack Lawrence.

She was predeceased by husband, Durwood Tyndall; her parents, Carrie and William Hill; and brother, Leslie "Sonny" Hill.

A memorial service for Catherine will be at Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Goldsboro, N.C., Monday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m., with visitation immediately following at the church. The family will welcome friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at 1201 Cuyler Best Road, Goldsboro, N.C.
