EUGENIA ROHR BROOKS

Eugenia Rohr Brooks, 87, Goldsboro, went to be with her Lord in the presence of her valentine and late husband, John J. Brooks, Valentine's day morning.

Eugenia was born in Alum Bridge, W.Va., April 24, 1928, to the late Dr. Charles Bascom Rohr and Leah May Lindsay Rohr, a registered nurse.

She attended West Virginia University, then graduated from Glenville State College with a teaching degree.

She taught music for two years before marrying the love of her life John, and was married 57 years before his passing in October 2011.

She followed him across America as he pursued his career as an Air Force pilot before and during the Vietnam War, settling in Goldsboro.

They raised four children together, John C. Brooks, deceased, formerly of Fremont, Vikki Brooks Blalock (Jerry) of Lincoln, Ala., Jenny Brooks Cuevas (Yusef) of Raleigh and Jerry Brooks and Debra Brown of Goldsboro.

Eugenia also had 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Eugenia was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years, and was also an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for many years in Goldsboro.

She and her husband operated the Hobby Shop on Center Street, complete with a slot car track in 1969 and 1970 before moving the shop to Berkeley Boulevard.

Eugenia was one of the founding senior members of the Goldsboro/Wayne Civil Air Patrol Squadron established in 1970, and she and her husband founded and operated Rohr Chemicals and Rohr Tire, of which the latter is still in business on William Street, being owned and operated now by son, Jerry.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service celebrating Eugenia's life at 11 a.m. in the chapel, with pastor Steve Wellman officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
