MARGARET WISE YELVERTON

Margaret Wise Yelverton, 94, Eureka, passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Margaret was born in Halifax County July 1, 1921, to the late Roger Marvin and Luetta Capps Wise. She was married to the late Selby A. Yelverton.
Margaret retired as a science and home economics teacher with the Wayne County Public Schools.
She was a graduate of East Carolina Teacher College, and was a member and past president of Fidelis Omicron Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an educational sorority.
Margaret was a member of Eureka United Methodist Church. She was devoted to her church, where she held many offices within the church. Among them, she served as president of the United Methodist Women, church historian, member of the church administrative council and member of the choir. She was communion steward, and worked tirelessly as chairman of the Fellowship Building Committee.
Margaret was fond of antiques, and collected many.
She loved the art of conversation and dining out with family and friends, including those at Brookdale Senior Living Solutions, W. Arlington in Greenville, where she resided for the past year.
She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening and arranging flowers. Working crossword puzzles and reading were hobbies she also enjoyed at quieter times.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church, followed by a service celebrating Margaret’s life at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Michele Clark and the Rev. Connie Belmore officiating.
Services will conclude with interment at Eureka Cemetery.
Margaret is survived by her sons, Donald Wayne Yelverton AIA and wife, Betsy, of Charlotte and Selby Allan Yelverton and wife, Beth, of LaGrange; three grandchildren, Lex Yelverton of Charlotte, Lt. j.g. Ethan Yelverton, United States Navy of Norfolk, Va., and Caseybeth Yelverton, doctoral student at Mary Baldwin College in Harrisonburg, Va.; and sister, Ruth W. Davis of Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville.
She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Jack Yelverton of Eureka and Hilda Y. McMahon of Berthoud, Colo.
In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her sisters, Christine W. Parker and Mildred W. Morris.
