J. DILLON EASON JR.
J. Dillon "J.D." Eason Jr. of Richmond passed away peacefully in the early hours of Dec. 3 after a lengthy illness. Dillon was born in Goldsboro in 1926 and grew up here.
Following service in the U. S. Air Force during WWII and college at North Carolina State University, Dillon worked as a sales executive for the American Tobacco Company/Reynolds American, traveling extensively until his retirement in 1987.
Upon retirement, he joined The Kiwanis Club of Richmond and was a longtime member with years of perfect attendance. He was a recipient of the Hixon Award. Through Kiwanis, he especially enjoyed his volunteer work with The Children's Hospital of Richmond, The Virginia Voice, and as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius D. and Kelly Miller Eason, and his brother, Samuel Miller Eason.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Mary Stanley Eason and daughter, Kelly Eason Winters, his son-in-law, Pete E.W. Winters, and his sister-in-law, Erline G. Eason as well as many extended family members.
Dillon never met a stranger and had many life-long friends. He enjoyed golf, football, basketball (especially ACC), vegetable gardening and woodworking. He loved the beach, music, dancing and a good party with friends.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire Cedarfield staff -- or best described as our Cedarfield family -- for their love, devotion and care. Special thanks are also extended to the staff of Hospice Community Care for their dedication, love and care.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, in the Fellowship Hall at The Hermitage at Cedarfield, 2300 Cedarfield Parkway, Henrico, Virginia. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Cedarfield Employee Christmas Fund, 2300 Cedarfield Parkway, Henrico, Va. 23233.
