Joseph Anthony Brown III, "Sonny" passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1000 11th St., Goldsboro.
A service celebrating Sonny's life will follow the visitation at 3 p.m. in the chapel with Bishop John W. Bass conducting the service.
Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.
Sonny retired after 30 years as a teacher and coach. He served as a member of Wayne Water District's board, was a member of the Masonic Home Lodge 613 and was an assistant Boy Scout troop leader for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Joseph Anthony "Jay" and wife, Jannice, of Lucama; and William Gaston "Bill" and wife, Ashley, of Summerfield.
He was also survived by his mother, Ruby Barnes Brown of Fremont; two brothers, Robert "Bobby" Brown of Fremont, Charles "Charlie" Brown of Zuni, Va.; and two sisters, Ann Brown of Fremont and Lee and husband, Randy Gray, of Pikeville.
Sonny was also blessed with multiple grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Boy Scouts of America or simply take a kid fishing.
