THOMAS YANCEY WOOTEN

Mr. Thomas Yancey Wooten, 82, Prides Road, East Bend, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 6, 1933, in Yadkin County to the late Pride E. and Lola Wall Wooten.
Mr. Wooten was blessed with a full life of things that he enjoyed and wanted to do.
His early years of life inspired him with the desire to teach and to help others. He was able to retire from Yadkin County School System with 34 years of service in education, of which 29 years he served as a principal.
Mr. Wooten was elected and served as a Yadkin County commissioner with 12 years of service in politics.
During his years of retirement, he was active as a volunteer and an advocate for the senior citizens of Yadkin County. He was active in civic service, and was recognized by the Governor's Office of North Carolina for his years of service, which included serving on the board of directors for 11 different volunteer organizations.
Mr. Wooten was of the Methodist faith, and most importantly, was a loving devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially watching different games.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Lynn Wooten, and by two brothers, Trasker Wooten and Glendon Wooten.
Surviving are his beloved wife of more than 57 years, Mary Colie Wooten of the home; two sons, Sterling Wooten and wife, Sharon Kazlo, and Eric Wooten of East Bend; his grandchild, Sydney Wooten of Clemson; sisters, Gaynelle Doub, Vergie Mathis and Shelby Vestal; brothers, Leon Wooten and Samuel Wooten; sisters-in-law, Nancy Wooten and Ruth Wooten; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Prospect United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Robin Fitzgerald. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
