RACHEL VIRGINIA AYCOCK MOORING
March 6, 1922-April 8, 2015
Rachel Virginia Aycock Mooring quietly passed away at the age of 93 years Wednesday, April 8, 2015.
Born March 6, 1922, on Old Black Creek Road, Rachel was the last surviving child of the late Simon and Virginia Aycock of Fremont.
She grew up and lived in the Fremont area her entire life, and fondly recalled her younger days there.
At Fremont School, Rachel was a member of the girls basketball team and the Beta Club.
After graduating as a member of the Fremont High School class of 1940, Rachel attended Atlantic Christian College in Wilson.
Rachel married Joseph Ray Mooring from nearby Eureka in 1942. For 58 years, they farmed in the Fremont area until his death in 2000.
Her infant daughter, Donna Cheryl, and her son, Dennis Kay, also preceded her in death.
Rachel is survived by two sons, Joseph Ray Mooring Jr. and wife, Alma, of Pikeville and Derryl Brent Mooring and wife, Jerri, of Fremont.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, Sean Mooring and wife, Shannon, of Clayton, Jody Ray Mooring and wife, Beth, of Henderson, Millicent Mooring of Raleigh, Stephen Mooring of Fremont and Renee Mooring Phillips and husband, Josh, of Goldsboro.
Four great-grandchildren, Grant, Andrew, Maggie and Emma, also survive.
Rachel enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable garden, making and painting ceramics, collecting dolls and shopping at yard sales.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Visitation will be held at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont (N.C. 222) Thursday, April 9, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, April 10, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park U.S. 117 South.
