WILLIAM STAPLES SAWYER

William Staples Sawyer, Elizabeth City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ventrice Sawyer; his eldest child, the Rev. William Wade Sawyer Sr. and wife, Bess Edwards-Sawyer of Goldsboro; grandson, William Wade Sawyer Jr. of LaGrange; and his only granddaughter, Catheran-Bess Sawyer of Greensboro.
In addition, he leaves to cherish his memory five other children, three other grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two siblings and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sawyer owned and operated Sawyer's House of Furniture and Boss Realty in Elizabeth City for 60 years.
Funeral services will be held at Corinth Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, N.C., Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening at Twiford Funeral Home in Elizabeth City from 6 to 8 p.m.
