Durwood Morris "Tommy" Sanderson, 67, resident of Red Hill Community near Mount Olive, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at Vidant Medical Center.
Private graveside services were to be held Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Pate Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Rose officiating.
Family and friends are being received at the residence.
Tommy, retired from the maintenance department at Carolina Turkeys, was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Eunice Ward Sanderson, and a brother, Milton "Terapin" Sanderson.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Taylor Sanderson of the home; a son, Richard Morris "Richie" Sanderson of Mount Olive; two grandchildren, Saiberh Sanderson and Richard Stanley "Tommy" Sanderson of Mount Olive; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Annette S. and Edd Holmes Jr. and Janice S. and Curt Brock all of Mount Olive and Peggy S. Padgett of Pink Hill; a sister-in-law, Bertha Sanderson of Mount Olive; another brother-in-law, the Rev. Bobby Ray Taylor and wife, Janie, of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.
