Former Fremont mayor, Mr. Devone Jones, 74, 109 Ballance Road, passed Friday evening, Jan. 2, 2015, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Goldsboro, N.C.
The celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. James Church of Christ, 514 Memorial Church Road, Fremont, N.C. He will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery, 303 E. North St., Fremont, N.C.
There will be a visitation held Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, from 6 to 7 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church, 410 S. Goldsboro St., Fremont, N.C.
He was born Oct. 7, 1940, in Wayne County to the late Henry and Doshie Jones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Smith Jones; his parents; and his 15 siblings.
He is survived by his three children, Tony Jones, Barbara Gibson and Ray Jones, and three grandchildren, Tiffany Gibson, Bryson Gibson and Brittany Jones.
He served as the mayor of Fremont from 2004 until his health declined.
