John Robert Oates, 80, 2471 Preacher Henry Road, Faison, died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Poplar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with pastor Willie Alford officiating. Burial will be in Cobbs Cemetery.
Born in Sampson County, he was the son of the late Ananias Oates and Meatrice McClain Oates, and husband of Bessie Taylor Oates.
Four children survive.
Visitation will be tonight 4 to 7 at Garris Funeral Home Chapel and an hour prior to funeral service at the church, with the family present. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home.
Arrangements are by Garris Funeral Home.
