GEORGE BENTON HERRING

George Benton Herring, 77, Kinston, passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Johnie and Carrie Mae Stafford Herring.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Wagner Herring; sister, Susan Herring Gardner; and brother, James Arthur "John" Herring.
George served his country with the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959.
He was a member of Westminster United Methodist Church, and a retired supervisor with DuPont.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Herring Raynor and husband, Dalton, of Ayden; son, Michael Carl Herring and wife, Susan, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Alex Thomas Raynor, Eric Benton Raynor, Sarah Alise Herring and Liza Wagner Herring; and twin brother, David Herring and wife, Linda, of Goldsboro.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home, with the Rev. T. R. Miller officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kan., 66675, or Lenoir County SPCA, 2455 Rouse Road Extension, Kinston, N.C., 28504.
