MOUNT OLIVE -- Willie Walter Johnson, 86, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29 peacefully with his family by his side at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Willie was born in Greene County on Sept. 22, 1928 to the late Will and Maggie Mae Holloman Johnson. He was one of four children and the only boy. At age 15, he was faced with the responsibility of being the man of the house when his father died.
He married his wife of 60 years, Joyce Cox Johnson, June 11, 1954. Together, they worked hard on the family farm, raising three children. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and the annual family trip to the mountains in the fall.
Funeral services will be at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Monday evening at 7 p.m. with the Revs. A. G. Smith and Emmitt Jones officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Willie Ray "Bud" Johnson and friend, Bonnie, Lynn Johnson and wife, Angie, both of Mount Olive; a daughter, Wanda Johnson Sloan and husband, Troy, of Chinquapin; a sister, Louise Holland; and four special grandchildren, Alan and Abigail Johnson of Mount Olive and Johnson and Walter Sloan of Chinquapin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Johnson Waters and Lillian Johnson Baker.
