RUTH F. HARRELL

Ruth Ferrell Harrell, 88, died Sunday afternoon at the Brian Center.
Born in Wilson County, she was the daughter of the late Gray and Ida Holland Ferrell, and wife of the late Ernest Asa Harrell.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Clifton, George, Carl and Garland; a sister, Naomi Vick; and a stepdaughter, Lois Kennedy.
Ruth graduated as the valedictorian at Kenly High School in 1942.
She worked with the Wayne County schools for 27 years, and was the manager of Pikeville School cafeteria for more than 10 years.
She was a member of Nahunta Friends Church, and was a foster grandparent.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Nahunta Friends Church, with the Rev. Eric Woods and the Rev. Ken Spivey officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Family members will greet friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times, at the home of her son, Bill Harrell.
Ruth is survived by her sons, Ernest Ray Harrell and wife, Alice, of Dudley, William Gray "Bill" Harrell and wife, Teresa, of Dudley and Michael Dean "Mike" Harrell and wife, Mary, of Pikeville; two grandchildren, Jamie Harrell Richards and husband, Bradley, of Goldsboro and Joy Riggan Leonard and husband, Matt, of Goldsboro; two great-grandchildren, Tommi Gray Richards of Goldsboro and Brianna Gray Lewis of Roxboro; four stepgrandchildren, Doug Ray Kennedy and Ricky Kennedy both of Kenly and Emily Lyda and Erin Lyda both of Pikeville; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Casey Kennedy and Paula Kennedy.
