JAMES "ALTON" WOODARD

James "Alton" Woodard, 80, Princeton, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 23, 1934, and was the son of the late Leslie A Woodard and Myrtle Wiggs Woodard.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Peedin Woodard.
Mr. Woodard served his country in the United States Army.
Mr. Woodard was the owner of Woodard Pecan Nursery. He was also employed with the Rains Milling Co. for more than 30 years in Princeton.
He was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church, board member of the North Carolina Pecan Association and served on the Princeton High School advisory board.
He also was a past member of Princeton Church of God, where he had served in many capacities -- clerk, Sunday school teacher, choir member, pastor's council and church trustee for many years
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro. Officiating will be the Rev. Rodney Holloman, the Rev. Les Woodard and the Rev. Christian Powell. The committal service will follow at 4 p.m. at Princeton Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Holloman; daughter, Ellen Woodard Coates and husband, Chris, of Kenly; a granddaughter, Megan Lynette Coates of Kenly; stepsons, the Rev. Rodney Holloman and wife, Andrea, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Marc Holloman and wife, Judy, of Princeton; stepgrandchildren, Ariel, Allison, Carissa and Reilly Holloman; brothers, Walter Harold Woodard and wife, Barbara, of Princeton, Roy Leslie Woodard and wife, Diane, of Princeton and Ronnie Ray Woodard and wife, Betty, of Princeton; and sisters, Bonnie Woodard Thompson and husband, Jimmy, of Princeton and Myde Woodard Godwin of Princeton.
He was the brother-in-law of the late Estel Godwin.
The family will be receiving friends beginning at noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro and immediately following the funeral service.
