Mrs. Rebecca Moye Gray, 91, Goldsboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014.
Rebecca was born in Franklin County (Bunn, N.C.) Aug. 29, 1922, the daughter of Madison Herbert Moye and Helen Jeffreys Moye.
Following graduation from Bunn High School, she attended East Carolina Teachers College, which is today East Carolina University.
She began a 38-year teaching career in Harnett County, where she taught in Coats for two years before moving to Wayne County and teaching in what was then the Goldsboro city schools for the reminder of her career.
A highly dedicated educator, she was honored to be selected as Teacher of the Year during her tenure.
She was a charter member of North Carolina Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority for Teachers, where she was recognized as being a Golden Sister for more than 50 years of membership.
Rebecca was a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, where she actively attended Sunday school and worship services until her health began to decline.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Lyman Royce Gray; brothers, Woodrow Wilson Moye, Benjamin Franklin Moye and Herbert Hamilton Moye, and a baby brother, Madison Moye.
Her surviving family includes a sister, Bessie Southern Evans of Raleigh; a niece, Jean Johnson and husband, Richard, of Raleigh; a great-nephew, Kevin Johnson; and great-niece, Brittany Johnson of Middlesex.
A special thanks to the care and love shown to Rebecca and her late husband, Lyman, is extended to the staff of Sterling House, Hospice, and for the many visits and cards from friends, Jarvis and Ruth Harrison and "Pastor Bob." A heartfelt thank you goes out to Ron and Jean Robinson, longtime neighbors and friends, who were always there to help; may God bless you all.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at Snow Hill Cemetery, with Dr. Robert Fulkerson officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill.
