ELLEN NEWELL BENTON

Ellen Newell Benton, 92, died Monday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Simeon Baker and Bertha Jones Newell, and was the wife of the late William "Robert" Benton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday evening at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Christian Powell officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be held Friday morning at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Ellen retired in 1984 as a reading teacher with Goldsboro City Schools, and was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her.
Survivors include a son, William Robert Benton Jr. and his wife, Mui Yim, of Singapore; a daughter, Beverly Benton Stoy; sisters, Irene Blum of Fayetteville, Maxine Hasty of Seaboard and Betty Jean Rhodes of Garner; a special nephew, Dale Newell; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
