HARRY G. HARRELL
Oct. 4, 1941-March 7, 2014
Harry Guynn Harrell, 72, passed peacefully into that far better life with his Lord and savior, while surrounded by his family at his home.
His courage during this fight with cancer was typical of his strong faith and strength of character, also reflecting his loyalty, dedication and deep love for his family.
Harry was born in Duplin County Oct. 4, 1941, to the late Thedford T. Harrell and Lucy Batts Harrell.
He was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College, and had worked as an insurance adjuster for many years.
Harry and Pat made their home, and enjoyed many friendships in other communities, which included Wilmington, Asheville and Goldsboro.
After his retirement, they could often be found at their mountain home in West Jefferson, where they greatly enjoyed visiting with friends and seeing God's beauty in nature.
Harry was a longtime member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He was devoted to his church, where he was involved in many activities, and utilized his gifts and abilities to share the love of God.
Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Although Harry leaves a vacant place in our hearts, we know he truly earned his special place in heaven. Harry will always be remembered as a loyal man of faith, love and respect for everyone who touched his life. The best of Harry will live on in each of us.
A service to celebrate Harry's life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at St. Luke United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Adam Seate officiating. Interment will follow in Rockfish Cemetery in Wallace, N.C.
Harry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Ann "Pat" Davis Rogers Harrell; daughter, Suzanne Rogers Harrell Hall and husband, L. Brad Hall, of Raleigh; son, Jeffrey Guynn Harrell and wife, Michele Lee Harrell, of Fort Collins, Colo.; sister, Phyllis Harrell Rouse of Kenansville; and his precious grandchildren, Steven Bradford Hall, Rebekah Leigh Hall, Mason Lee Harrell and the newest granddaughter Harry's son and daughter-in-law are expecting in May.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 E. Pine St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 9, 2014, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at his home.
