HORTENSE LILES ROUSE
Feb. 1, 1924-Feb. 16, 2014
Hortense "Horty" Liles Rouse, 90, resident of the Sterling House, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Horty was born in Wayne County Feb. 1, 1924, to the late O.C. and Hortense Foushee Liles.
She was a graduate of Goldsboro High School, and was a member of the Goldsboro Swim Team.
Horty was also a graduate of Meredith College, where she played basketball and served as president of the Athletic Association.
Horty lived a life of dedication to her family and friends and to her community.
She was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Horty was devoted to her church, and was involved in many activities, where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.
She was a devout North Carolina State fan, and also enjoyed international travel with the "Go To" Club.
Boy Scouts was also very important to Horty, and she took great pride in the fact that her four brothers, four sons and three grandsons all achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
A service celebrating Horty's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Harry officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
Horty is survived by her sons, Ray Rouse III and wife, Margie, of Cary, Don Rouse and wife, Lora, of Cary, Charlie Rouse and wife, Hannah, of Goldsboro and David Rouse and wife, Sarah, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Alison Pleasants and husband, Chris, Ray Rouse IV, Blair Smith and husband, Jeremey, Molly Strom and husband, Harrison, Eva Cook and husband, Jay, Teresa Rouse, Clint Rouse and wife, Mary, Betty Brandt Rouse, Ellen Steed and husband, Chris, Matthew Rouse, Sam Rouse and Sally Rouse; and great-grandchildren, Chase Pleasants, Emma Smith and Olivia Steed.
She is also survived by her sisters, Hilda Strider and Meredith Liles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, David Liles, Henry Liles, Roy Liles and Charles Liles, and sisters, Dorothy Radford, Katharine Warren, Gladys Stephens and Ada Gray Liles.
