MOUNT OLIVE -- Geneva Barwick Walker, 82, passed away early Wednesday morning, Jan. 8, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m., at Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Church in Mount Olive, with the Rev. Richard Cuddington officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral at the church, and at other times, at the home of her daughter, Janet, in Mount Olive.
Burial will take place Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be directed to Northeast Church, 489 Northeast Church Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet Walker of Mount Olive; a son, Ray Walker Jr. of Mount Olive; a son-in-law, James Carroll Sauls of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren, Jay Sauls, Daniel Sauls, Ashton Eakes, Allen Walker, Devon Eakes, Ali Eakes and Drew Walker; a great-granddaughter, Brayden Tackett; two sisters, Eula B. Malpass of Mount Olive and Viola B. Grantham of Grantham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gideon Ray Walker; a daughter, Linda Walker Sauls; her parents, Franklin L. and Onita Herring Barwick; and 10 siblings.
Mrs. Walker was an active lifetime member of Northeast Original Free Will Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and was heavily involved in the ladies auxiliary and in the later years, the "Get Together Club."
The Walker family is grateful to the healthcare team at Mount Olive Family Medicine Center for its friendship, care and concern for Mrs. Walker during the period of her declining health.
