JAMES "DICK" BLIZZARD

James Gordon "Dick" Blizzard of Pikeville went to be with the Lord Nov. 25, 2013.
Although born in Lenoir County Aug. 6, 1928, Mr. Blizzard moved to Wayne County at the age of 2 and became a lifetime resident. He called Pikeville "the garden spot of the world."
He was a retired farmer, and loved working the land.
He also loved riding his golf cart, driving his pickup, listening to and singing country and gospel music and spending time with his family.
Mr. Blizzard was preceded in death by his father, William Jasper Blizzard Sr.; his mother, Alma Jernigan Blizzard; beloved grandson, Robby Blizzard; brothers, Joseph "Joe" Blizzard and William Jasper "Buddy" Blizzard Jr.; and sisters, Ruth Holloman, Dorothy Daniels, Haddie Bowers and Marie Miller.
A service to celebrate the life of Dick will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Daniels and the Rev. Ricky Sullivan officiating.
Family members will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow the visitation at Wayne Memorial Park.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dorothy Sullivan Blizzard; sons, Danny and Wanda Blizzard of Pikeville and Floyd and Faye Blizzard of Fremont; daughter, Delilah and Eddie Fisher of Lake Lure, N.C.; grandsons, Richard and Angie Blizzard of Mount Olive, Steven and Laura Blizzard of Pikeville and Philip and Deborah Suggs of Huntersville, N.C.; granddaughter, Virginia and Robbie Taylor of Fremont; great-grandchildren, Maverick, Piper and Cheridan Blizzard, Michael and Matthew Taylor and Hailey Suggs; sister, Evelyn Stith of Pikeville; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
