Col. Ray J. Rogers, 87, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A service celebrating Ray's life will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with Paula Griffin officiating. Military honors will follow on the front lawn.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the lobby.

Ray was born in Bristol, Va., Nov. 28, 1925, to the late Benjamin and Estelle Atkins Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Doris Stevens Rogers.

Ray was a retired colonel in the United States Army, and was a highly decorated World War II and Korean War veteran, having received the Combat Infantry Badge with two clusters.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Ray is survived by his brother, Cliff Rogers of Bristol, Tenn.; his sons, Michael Ray and Steven; his grandchildren; and his great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee Rogers.

The family would like to express its appreciation for the compassionate care provided by his primary caregivers, Anne Best, Mabel Graham, Ella Wynn and Sylvia Britt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, 1101 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
