Robert Lewis Smith, 79, died Monday morning at the Brian Center in Goldsboro.
He was born in Providence, R.I., to the late Willard and Catherine Smith. He was the husband of Ruth Smith.
Robert served his career in United States Air Force, and retired while at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
A memorial service will be held Thursday evening at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating.
The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Chris Pittman of Indiatlantic, Fla., and Kenny and Denise Pittman of Lakeside Ca.; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Ken Ferguson of New Bern, N.C., and Wendy and Donald Strickland of Seven Springs, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
