GREENSBORO -- Dr. William "Bill" C. Denmark, 77, Greensboro, passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at First Baptist Church of Greensboro. Interment will be private.
Bill Denmark was born Jan. 3, 1936, in Goldsboro, N.C., to the late Robert and Della Denmark.
He was a member First Baptist Church of Greensboro.
Bill graduated from Wake Forest University, and went on to get his master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Dr. Denmark spent his life in education. He first taught school in Wayne County, and moved to Greensboro in 1966 to teach at Greensboro College.
He became a principal for Greensboro city schools and later Guilford County schools, where he spent most of his 23 years as a principal at Sternberger Elementary School.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Denmark; son, William C. Denmark Jr. and wife, Dianne Beshong; daughter, Sara Elizabeth Denmark; grandchildren, Isabelle Grace Beshong Denmark and Vivienne Emma Beshong Denmark; and nieces, Della Williams and Judi Blalock.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lewis Denmark.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Forbis and Dick N. Elm Chapel.
