BARBARA PEACOCK KING

June 27, 1932-Aug. 7, 2013

Barbara Peacock King, 81, departed this walk of life Aug. 7, 2013, at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Homegoing services will be held Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at 1 p.m. at New Saint John AME Church on South Slocumb Street in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park North.

She was born Barbara Ann Peacock to the late Frederick D. Peacock Sr. and Alice Ashford Peacock June 27, 1932, in Goldsboro, N.C. She was the oldest of five siblings.

She attended Goldsboro city schools, and graduated from Dillard High School in 1950. She also graduated from Fayetteville State Teachers College in Fayetteville, N.C., majoring in early childhood education.

Barbara taught at East End School in Goldsboro, N.C., and worked at O'Berry Center as a social worker. She then moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., and worked as a social worker.

She confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior at an early age. She was reared in New Saint John AME Church, and was an active member until her health declined.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Hope King of Brooklyn, N. Y.; her husband, Booker T. King Sr. of Goldsboro, N.C.; and two sisters, Rosa P. Barnett of Goldsboro, N.C., and Annie Peacock Williams of Birmingham, Ala.

Barbara is survived by her son, Col. Booker T. King Jr., M.D., of Fort Sam Houston, Texas; two sisters, Helen P. Adams of Greensboro, N.C., and Pauline P. Peacock of Goldsboro; a brother, Frederick D. Peacock Jr. (Betty) of Goldsboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren; two-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and many friends.

A special thanks to one particular niece, who became a primary care provider. She provided extensive care for her aunt for years without complaint or compensation. She was more of a daughter than a niece, and we all thank her for her selfless service and her loving kindness. Thanks, Lynne, very much for your great big heart. We love you.
