FREMONT -- Jimmie Dee Thorne, 75, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive North, Wilson. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.
He was son of the late Jimmie Dee Thorne Sr. and Retha Lamm Thorne.
He served in the Navy, and was an active member and leader in Frank Price Presbyterian Church.
He had been active in the Fremont community, serving on the Fremont Volunteer Fire Department.
Jimmie was manager of Sears Automotive, where he worked for 38 years.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing and singing for others.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Jean Newsome Thorne, and his sister, Shirley Mihelic.
He is survived by his sons, Michael Thorne (Corey) of Fremont and Steven Thorne (Angie) of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Kyle, Andrew and Emily Thorne; sister, Frances Scott (Thurman) of Durham; brother, Dennis Thorne of Wilson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at the Sterling House and Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the compassionate care shown during his illness.
The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
