DONALD H. LEACOTT

Donald H. Leacott passed away quietly at his home on Feb. 8, 2013. He was 81 years young.

A service remembering the life of Mr. Leacott will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at 6 p.m. at the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Military honors will be rendered on the front lawn. The family will receive friends following the service at Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will be held at a later date.

CMSgt USAF, Retired, was born to Ruth A. and John Y. Leacott on July 22, 1931, in Atlantic City, N.J. While in the military, he received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Omaha (now University of Nebraska at Omaha) and his Master's Degree from Troy State University, Troy, Ala. After serving 27 years in the military, he continued to serve the military by working at the base education office, first at St. Leo's University and then at Mount Olive College where he served as director of special programs.

After his retirement he enjoyed his love of art, which he performed in different mediums, he also enjoyed meeting friends weekly for their dart games.

Mr. Leacott is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Maria. His two daughters, Linda Berard and husband, Gene, of Goldsboro, and Donna Roberts and husband, Mike, of Rockford, Ill; four grandchildren he loved so much, Christina Lea Myers of Carrollton, Ga., Doug Davidson, Nicolas Davidson and Bethany Davidson of Rockford, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Grace McAuliffe of Pine Bluff, N.Y.; and one brother, John Young Leacott of Delran, N.J.

Mr. Leacott was one of the founding members of the Alliance of Retired Military, Goldsboro Branch, where he currently served as vice president. He also sat on the board for Seymour Johnson Federal Credit Union, now NCCFCU, where he was president. Mr. Leacott was a member of the Wayne County Art Center, where several of his paintings were judged and he taught a watercolor class.
