Vincent D. Smith Sr., 68, of 541 Artis Road, Pikeville, passed away on Wednesday evening, Dec. 5, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
A home going service of remembrance and celebration will be held at noon Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Bear Creek Association Headquarters in Goldsboro, where the viewing will also take place one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Larry M. Johnson, pastor of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, will deliver the eulogy. Interment with Masonic honors will be in the John C. Exum Family Cemetery in Eureka immediately following the service.
Born in Wayne County, Vincent was the son of the late Matt Lee and Beulah Thompson Smith. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Rhetta Lee Baker, Vernell Parks and Blanche Artis, and one brother, Elmer Smith. He is survived by his loving wife, Goldie Harris Smith of the home; two children, Vincent D. Smith Jr. (Bridgett) of Atlanta, Ga., and Latraviette D. Smith of New York, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Adrian Simmons, Imani Corry and Cora Smith; two great-grandchildren, Jadyn Simmons and Caden Corry; and two sisters, Theressa Waters and Elna Waters.
