BARBARA DRAUGHON WYATT

Barbara Draughon Wyatt, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt great-aunt and grandmother, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at her home. She was 61 years old and was married for more than 43 years to James Michael Wyatt (U.S. Army Ret.).
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Kornegay and Moseley Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at 12:30 p.m. at Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, with Dr. George Crow officiating. Interment will be at Fort Jackson National Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, S.C., or to the cancer foundation of your choice.
Barbara was born in Fayetteville in 1951. She was the daughter of the late Ruben Brewer Draughon (U.S. Army Ret.) and Hazel Jean Bell Draughon. She was a 1969 graduate of Southern Wayne High School, Dudley. She attended the University of Maryland Okinawa.
Barbara retired from residential real estate sales after 31 years in July 2012. Each year, she received numerous awards for achievements as a top real estate agent during her 31 years. She will always be remembered as a sweet, outgoing and very special person who comes along once in a lifetime. Barbara never met a stranger. She was dedicated to her lord and family. She was exceptionally proud of her children's achievements and vastly adored her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her family was the love of her life. Barbara was very active in community activities, serving as the president of Northsprings Homeowners Association a myriad of times; served two times on the Richland County Planning Board; and was greatly involved in the first election campaign of current Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott.
Surviving are her husband, James Michael Wyatt; beloved children, a daughter, Rebecca W. McLaws of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, James Ruben Wyatt,of the home; cherished grandchildren, Hunter and Ethan McLaws of Atlanta, Ga., and Shelby Nunley Wyatt of Tennessee; adored sisters, Brenda Draughon Shafer (Gary) of Raleigh, and Beverly Draughon Thomas (David) of Pikeville; nephews and nieces, Matt, Ashley and Justin Thomas of Pikeville, Mark Shafer (Amber) and their daughter, Abigail, of Raleigh, and Amy Shafer Adkins (Robert) and their son, Caden, of Spring, Texas.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Smith, Nicole and Gwen, and the entire S.C. Oncology staff for their compassion and care during Barbara's courageous battle with cancer.
Rest in peace our precious Barbara. Lord take Barbara in your arms. Guide her through the storm. Sit with her in sunshine and let the wind be warm. Play her favorite music and when you see her smile, tell her that we love her and she's thought of all the while.
