PIKEVILLE -- Jarvis Garfield Pelt, 72, passed away suddenly on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, as he and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont with the Rev. Thomas McLendon officiating.
Jarvis was born in Wayne County on March 20, 1940, to the late Henry Garfield Pelt and Myrtle West Pelt. He retired from Kemp Furniture after 25 years of service. Jarvis always enjoyed the opportunity to score a good find when hunting for arrowheads. Through the years with his family and many friends he had a patient, caring, understanding and open mind, found wonderful conversation, thereby giving as well as receiving great love.
Jarvis is survived by his wife, Carolyn Gooding Pelt; his daughter, Tammy Pelt Wiggins and husband, Andrew, of Pikeville; his granddaughter, Meagan Wiggins Nalley and husband, Justin, of Pikeville; his sister, Linda Pelt Williams and husband, Charles, of LaGrange and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family. He is also survived by his dearest K-9 friend, Shiloh.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Pelt.
The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
