Mr. John Thomas Reid Sr., 68, lovingly known by his family and friends as "John Thomas," 1407 North Drive, Goldsboro, departed this life peacefully Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at his home.
He was married to the late Hedy Dickerson Reid.
John was born in Wayne County Oct. 21, 1943, to the late Mr. Dock Reid Sr. and the late Mrs. Charity Townsend Reid.
He received his early education in the public schools of Wayne County.
After graduating from Norwayne High School in 1961, John served his country by enlisting in the United States Army, in which he earned an "honorable" character of service.
John was employed with the Wayne County Public Schools in the maintenance department and Wilson Medical Center in Wilson.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at 1 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro. Elder James Thompson will officiate.
Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery, 2925 South U.S. 117, Dudley.
Also, a public viewing will be held Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, from 2 to 6 p.m., with family present from 5 to 6 p.m.
Mr. Reid leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories three children, Kelvin Reid, John T. Reid Jr. and Sharon Reid-Williams; two siblings, Loretha Raiford and Lillie Reid; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will assemble at the residence, 1407 North Drive, Goldsboro, one hour prior to the funeral at noon in preparation for the funeral procession.
