Everette Clayton Best, 58, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Clay was born in Wayne County Sept. 3, 1953, to the late Ira Lee Best and Norma Gray McCullen Wilkerson.

He recently retired from civil service at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida after 32 years of service.

Clay was a member of Beach Masonic Lodge No. 354 F. and A.M. in Indialantic, Fla., and was a Shriner. He was also a member of Goldsboro Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 139 and the Moose Lodge in Surf City.

Clay was a partner in the ownership of Al's in Goldsboro.

Clay is survived by his daughters, Tonya Best Lee of Dunn and Tabitha Leigh Best of Palm Bay, Fla.; sisters, Nyra Best Evans of Goldsboro and Claudia Gaye Best of Goldsboro; brothers, Mike Wilkerson of Pikeville, Donnie Wilkerson of Fremont and David Wilkerson of LaGrange; uncle, Carroll McCullen of Fasion; aunt, Minnie Mae McCullen of Faison; two special K-9 friends, Sirkec and Melon; as well as several nephews, nieces and great-nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors and Masonic rites.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Shriner's Children Hospital, P.O. Box 490, New Bern, N.C., 28560, or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2301 Stonehenge Drive, Suite 200, Raleigh, N.C., 27615.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012. from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at 3102 Summit Road in Goldsboro.
