EUNICE W. WHITFIELD
July 20, 1919-July 4, 2012
MOUNT OLIVE -- Eunice Waller Whitfield, 92, Rones Chapel community, passed away at her home Wednesday, July 4, 2012, surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her four sons, Rex Whitfield of Mount Olive, Doyle Whitfield and wife, Susan, of Dudley, Al Whitfield and wife, Joy Beth, of Goldsboro and Roy Whitfield and wife, Eileen, of Mount Olive; her daughter, Olivia W. Pierce and her husband, L.C., of Dudley; two sisters, Katrina W. Nunn of Mount Olive and Theria W. McPhail of Goldsboro; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Waller of Mount Olive and Roselyn Waller of Buffalo, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, James Webster Waller and Callie Waters Waller; her husband, Aldine H. Whitfield; two sons, Brently Clegg Whitfield and Ashley Gary Whitfield; five brothers, Robert Waller, Truman Waller, Dr. Coy Waller, Milton Waller and Keith Waller; two sisters, Ellen Best and Gaynelle Smith.
Mrs. Eunice was a devoted mother to her five surviving children, and a devoted grandmother, attending many ballgames, music recitals and supporting them in all of their activities.
She enjoyed helping customers select just the right clothes during her years spent at Cato's and Mary's Dress Shop in Mount Olive.
She was the recipient of the Mount Olive Lions Club Senior Citizen Award in 1987.
She attended Rones Chapel United Methodist Church for more than 70 years, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.
The Whitfield family appreciates the love and devotion of the caregivers who had attended to Mrs. Eunice over the past six years, including Linda Faison, who cared for her for the past year and a half.
Services will be held Friday, July 6, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, with the Rev. Mike Whatley and the Rev. Richard Hill officiating.
Visitation will take place immediately following the funeral service, and at other times at Mrs. Eunice's home.
Burial will be held privately in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
